How to Get Rid of Weeds in Your Lawn
Weeds are opportunists. Dandelions, clover, plantains, buttercups and daisies all take hold in the same conditions - wherever the grass is thin, weak or stressed. That's why the most effective long-term weed control isn't a bottle of spray; it's a dense, healthy lawn that leaves weeds nowhere to establish.

What's Causing the Problem?
Thin, Sparse Grass
Bare and thin areas are an open invitation for weed seeds. Any gap in the lawn will be colonised by weeds before grass can fill it.
Compacted or Poor Soil
Many weeds - like plantains and dandelions - actually thrive in the compacted, poor soil where grass struggles, giving them a competitive edge.
Mowing Too Short
Scalping weakens the grass and exposes soil to light, allowing low-growing weeds like clover and daisies to spread across the surface.

How to Solve It - Step by Step
Identify the weeds first

Remove isolated weeds by hand
For a few dandelions or plantains, dig them out with a weeding tool, removing the entire taproot so they can't regrow. This is ideal for small infestations and avoids chemicals.
Use a selective lawn weedkiller
For widespread broadleaf weeds, a selective lawn weedkiller kills the weeds while leaving the grass unharmed. Apply on a dry, calm day during active growth (spring to early autumn) and follow the dose exactly.

Combined weed-and-feed treatments kill weeds and feed the grass at once, helping the lawn thicken up and close the gaps the weeds left behind.
Feed the lawn regularly
A well-fed lawn grows dense and out-competes weeds. Regular feeding is one of the most effective long-term weed-prevention tactics.
Overseed bare and thin areas
After clearing weeds, overseed the gaps so grass - not the next weed seed - fills the space.
Mow high and often
Keeping the grass a little longer shades the soil, stops weed seeds germinating, and weakens low-growing weeds. Mow regularly but never too short.
